TO THE ORIGINS OF WATCHMAKING

In 2015, Hublot unveiled its first perpetual calendar. This exceptional mechanism is now back, decorated in its finest array with a King Gold case.

For the tenth anniversary of the Big Bang, Hublot was not planning to go back to the origins of the universe, but rather to set off on a wonderful journey to the limits of watchmaking with the Big Bang Perpetual Calendar King Gold Ceramic. The watch combines two major complications, the chronograph and the perpetual calendar, powered by the HUB 1270 self-winding movement. The day, date, month, moon phases, as well as the short time measurements are displayed with the help of four discs on a dial that is perfectly organised to make reading the information easy. So the month and the 30-minute counter on the chronograph are displayed at 9 o’clock, while the day and the chronograph hours are at 6 o’clock.

Some 416 components orchestrate these two complications to perfection. Like all perpetual calendars, the Big Bang Perpetual Calendar King Gold Ceramic can handle leap years. With four correctors perfectly fitted to the outside of the case, the monopushers and the crown make it easy to reset the date. And while the semi-transparent sapphire dial reveals some of the workings, the calibre is totally unveiled through the sapphire case back.

The case is 45mm wide and adorned with King Gold in a polished satin finish. This alloy, developed by Hublot, is both luxurious and hi-tech, and produced with a higher percentage of copper. The result? It is even more intense than 5N red gold. The firm’s metal specialists have also added platinum to the gold to make the metal more resistant to rust and ageing.
