MB&F – LEGACY MACHINE SPLIT ESCAPEMENT

A CUT ABOVE

With four new limited editions, MB&F takes the aesthetic design codes and mechanism of the Legacy Machine collection to new heights.

Like the other watches in the Legacy Machine collection, the balance wheel on the Split Escapement is the focus of attention. On this model, it stands out from the previous versions, nonetheless, through its original mechanical architecture. The escape wheel and the anchor giving the impulsion needed for oscillation are placed on the other side of the movement, 12mm lower to be precise. The result? The 14 mm-wide balance wheel looks as if it was working independently, without being connected to any source of energy. This unusual arrangement is what inspired the timepiece’s name, Split Escapement. Held in place by arches with organic lines, this brilliant mechanism is placed above three dials displaying the hours at 12 o’clock, the power reserve at 4 o’clock and the date at 8 o’clock.

For the dial, MB&F again makes use of the cog technique first seen on the Legacy Machine 101 Frost. On this new model, the surface is adorned with colours using a PVD coating. Each version – blue, ruthenium, rose gold and yellow gold – comes in a limited edition of 18 pieces.

The Legacy Machine Split Escapement is driven by a hand-wound movement providing up to 72 hours of power reserve, with the help of two barrels set in parallel. The calibre is housed in a 44mm white-gold case. On the back of the case, a sapphire glass reveals the wheels and cogs with hand-made finishes in the pure tradition of 19th century watches.
